The Safety Programs Group is responsible for programs that make New York State's roadways safer for all highway users, young and old. The staff implements and coordinates new programs and is also responsible for oversight of ongoing safety activities.   The staff oversee the highway safety programs in the state:  STOP-DWI, occupant restraint, pedestrian and wheel sport safety,  all areas of safe driver behavior, police traffic enforcement and traffic records management.  Program Representative staff support local government officials, community groups and safety organizations with advice and support in creating highway safety programs and projects as well as with grant development and administration.  The Representatives serve the following counties:
